God Speak | Gods Voice I Voice of God

Does God still speak?

There are many basic questions in the minds of Christians today that try to identify with whether God still speaks? Does He speak only to believers in Jesus? How can we really tell if it’s His voice? In John 10:27 - Jesus says, "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me."

One of the greatest concerns today in the body of Christ is heresy, and listening to strange voices that are not from God. Whether it’s Bible-based doctrinal extremes, New Age, psychic or Eastern meditation, there are many religions and practices nowadays that are promoting connection with the wrong voices.

The following brief pointers below will hope to address some concerns with the understanding that the closer and the better we get to know God the more clearly we will recognize His voice. If we know God’s voice, then we will more easily recognize false voices with deceptive messages.

Four voices that speak to us
  • God speaks to us – Job 33:14; Acts 8: 26
  • Our own voice speaks to us – 1 Corinthians 10:27; Colossians 2:18
  • Others speak to us. This also may be good, neutral or wrong – Galatians 1:10
  • The Devil speaks to us – Acts 16: 16; 2 Timothy 1: 7; Revelation 12: 10

Four tests help us recognize God’s voice.

  • God does not contradict His written word – John 10:35; 1 Corinthians 14: 37
  • God’s voice has a consistent character – James 3:17; Philippians 4; 6 – 7
  • The fruit of God’s voice is good – Matthew 7: 15 – 23
  • God’s voice is different from our voice – Isaiah 55: 8 – 9

These tests only work with practice and in an environment of friendship with the Lord.

  • Skill at anything is only acquired by practice -  Hebrew 5 :14 (NASB); Jeremiah 33:3; Isaiah 11:3
  • God shares His secrets and His plans with His friends – Genesis 18: 17; Psalms 26:14; John 15:15; Matthew 13: 11; 1 Corinthians 2:7 – 15; 4;1
